Onesmo Jacob
Onesmo Jacob hails from the north and was born and brought up on the slopes of Mount Meru in Arusha, the safari capital of Tanzania. He has been interested in wildlife from his early years and was specifically influenced by his grandfather from whom he learnt an appreciation of natural history and traditional values. Following full time education Onesmo worked in village conservations projects before studying to be a wildlife guide.
He joined Beho Beho in June 2005 after working with Oliver's Camp in Tarangire where he developed his particular interest in ornithology.
In the low season of 2006 Onesmo visited South Africa for an extended tour of safari properties throughout the country starting in Cape Town and driving to Durban and Kruger National Park. His host was Maretha Wentzel and her many friends who really made sure that Onesmo had the 'time of his life'.
In the low season of 2007 Onesmo attended a language course at a school in Malta for six weeks - where he was not only a big hit with the other students but also learnt to swim, target shoot, first aid, fire fighting which he now lists amongst his many 'talents'. He also visited UK to stay with several friends and ex guests of Beho Beho.
In the low season of 2008 Onesmo joined a 'dangerous game' patrol in southern Tanzania where he worked alongside the Department of Wildlife rangers in controlling and understanding big game that had become a problem near to habitation.
In the low season 2009 Onesmo was hosted by Sean and Kim Lues on a road trip to Zimbabwe meeting up with Spike Williamson and Rita Harvey and also Sacha and Tam Toronyi - see his separate report.
Onesmo has received intensive training from three of our Zimbabwean professional guides (Spike, Sean and Sacha) during his time at Beho Beho and they are confident that he has 'earned his spurs' as one of the most experienced guides in Tanzania.
