Salum Mpapa

"I'm enjoying the bush so much and still want to spend the rest of my life in the bush. My favorite animals is nothing than my brother baboon for their life style. Luner Moth is my favorite insect and my bird is Lilac Breasted Roller and my tree is the Fig (Fucus)."

Salum was born in Kingupira in the eastern sector of the Selous Game Reserve and undertook all of his schooling in and around the vicinity of the Selous in Tanzania, where his father worked as a Game Scout for the Reserve for many years.
He joined us at Beho Beho as a kitchen porter in July 2004 and worked his way through all departments over the next couple of years.
With his vast time spent in the Selous Game Reserve during his youth and with his father being closely involved in the wildlife he has decided to follow his passion and his interests have lead him to become a Trainee Guide at Beho Beho.

In the low season of 2008 Salum followed in his fellow guide's footsteps and went on a six weeks 'language course' in Malta. This was his first time out of Tanzania where he also learnt target shooting and other useful skills like first aid and health and safety as well as demonstrating his proficiency in English.

In the low season of 2009 Salum was hosted on an extensive tour of Zimbabwe by Sacha and Tam Toronyi -see his report below.
