Walter Jubber
Walter Jubber was born in Johannesburg, where he grew up and did his initial schooling. In 2002 he began his studies in Field Guiding and Lodge Management with Spectra Ventures, Mpumalanga. After completion, Spectra Ventures appointed him as a Guide Trainer.
In 2004 Walter joined Classic Safaris, based in the Ehi-Rovipuka Conservancy in the Koakaveld of Namibia. He spent 3 months gaining valuable tracking and walking experience and also aided with camp management.
After Namibia, Walter returned back to South Africa and worked within Welgevonden, a Private Reserve based in the Waterberg for five star Nedile Lodge. There he was the Assistant Lodge Manager and Head Guide. Walter worked in the Waterberg for three years, where he guided guests in vehicle and walking based activities. He assisted Dave Powerie, the assigned elephant researcher of the reserve, studying elephant contraception and vasectomies as well as with numerous other general wildlife monitoring projects.
In 2007 Walter joined Wilderness Safaris, where he was appointed as the Senior Trails Guide for Pafuri Camp in the northern region of the Kruger National Park. Walter was soon elevated to head guide, before being promoted and reassigned as the Environmental Officer and Senior Trails Guide. During this period, Walter set up and ran the Pafuri Walking Trails from early 2009. He assisted with various biodiversity baseline studies, which included a bat and butterfly survey, several Pel’s Fishing Owl surveys hosting Endangered Wildlife Trust and several biodiversity monitoring projects. Walter headed up the elephant identi-study section of the trans-boundary elephant movement project for Dr Steve and Dr Michelle Henley.
Other projects either headed or assisted by Walter during his time at Pafuri include; a hippo seasonal movement study, predator monitoring and identi-study, oxpecker study and weather data capturing.
Walter has a ceaseless and definitive love and passion for conservation and specialises in biodiversity ecology and trails guiding.
